In Search of the Ideal City: A Window to the Surreality

Date

2020

Project type

Solo exhibition, Gallery 73, Belgrade, Serbia, 2020

In Search of the Ideal City: A Window to the Surreality is a multimedia spatial installation developed as my doctoral artistic project in Scene Design. Drawing on the cities in which I have lived, the work explores movement between places, memories and different states of perception. The research moves through real and imaginary windows, questioning the boundaries between interior and exterior, reality and imagination.

Drawing, printmaking, porcelain, artist’s books, moving image and translucent materials come together as elements of a single spatial composition. Windows, thresholds and layered surfaces structure the visitor’s movement through the work, allowing images and fragments to shift between page, object and space.

An important part of the project is the artist’s-book diptych Moonlight Collectors. The project marks an important development in my practice: the artist’s book becomes not only an autonomous object, but a point of departure for thinking spatially — through sequence, fragmentation, image, material and the presence of the viewer.
